Shareholder Training
A new type of course is being launched that is the
first of its kind in Brazil: a Shareholder Training Course targeting people
with no business experience but who are partners, shareholders or future
corporate heirs. The typical public for this course consists of the heirs
or future heirs (both men and women) of corporate shareholdings and businesses.
This course is not intended to train business managers;
it rather produces aware shareholders who understand what a business really
is, and what are the rights of its shareholders, while also acquiring
basic knowledge of corporate law and family law, in addition to learning
how to read a balance sheet.
This course will use the format of discussion groups
with meetings lasting ninety minutes each. Group members receive reading
material in advance of each meeting for study, which is then discussed
and analyzed at each session. One meeting a month is held over a nine-month
period, during which time the basic knowledge listed above is taught.
At the end of the basic course, more important issues will be covered
in greater depth during a second stage, if desired.

1. General concepts of family businesses
2. Conflicts in family businesses
3. Conflicts between parents and children
4. Family law - marriage, divorce, wills, etc.
5. Brazilian company law - "Sociedade Anônima" and Limited Liability Companies.
6. Introduction to accounting and reading balance sheets.
7. Family agreements.
8. Retirement of the CEO - Importance of a pre-set retirement age, preparation
and fears.
9. Succession.
